LOL... I'm saying that if you're want to be all pierced and tattooed, you're not just limited to being a piercer. It's awesome if that's what you really want to be. I just don't want people thinking, "well, if I want to be modified, then I better gear up for a line of work in that industry," which happens a lot.

My mother is the manager of the golden nugget casino in las vegas and she has her nose pierced and lots of ear piercings. She also has a visible tattoo behind her ear and several other visible tattoos. I'm just a waitress. lol.

I'm training to be a butcher at the moment =) for now I'm working in a freekin supermarket butchers so i cant have any visible piercings... however.. there is no rule on tats so when I'm done my apprenticeship and have more money, tats will be as visible as I want and they can deal with that cause I'm gonna be an awesome butcher and good at what I do. Yeah, it wasn't exactly my 1st choice of career when I finished school and went to college, but its a dying trade, very interesting and turns out to be a lot of fun and very bloody =) So maybe it's not the same as being a high earning business woman or such. But I guess its something I got going for me and I am proud of that. The fact I'm making sacrifices with my mods now mean I appriciate them a LOT more when I do get them (and no one else knows about them hehe) Add to the fact it's a predominantly male occupation and breaking the 'rules' on sex too =D Go me! *blows own trumpet - toot toot*

I get what your saying Adam.
I aspire to be a executive chef and own my own a high class restaurant while still being a heavenly modified individual.

That's awesome! And exactly what I'm talking about =). I've worked in kitchens for close to 7 years. I loves it! At 18 I had to choose either culinary school or college for IT. I think you can see which way I went =)

good luck!

Well, I agree with Adam here. I used to fear the repurcussions of getting mods, but then a few years ago I just decided to live for myself. And it didn't affect my career aspirations at all. I have a Ph.D in Engineering and work at a high-level job in engineering software development. And I've gone to interviews and gotten an offer at each one. Yes, I cover most of my tattoos (except those on the sides of my neck), but my 1 1/2 inch stretched ears are hard to hide. Those who say that you can't have mods and a "real job" don't know what they're talking about.
If you want to be a piercer or tattoo artist, that's great. I wish I had the talent to be a tattooer. But you only live once, and if getting mods is what you want, they're not incompatible with a successful career.

Very well put Adam, I try (even though I am only 17 and in college BUT) I try to be myself, successful but everywhere I go its the first thing they say..like "Take those off if you want to stay here" or " You better not think you are keeping those on" for my piercings ofcourse.

At first I had to take everything out, but now I dont take notice I just try to be the best student of the class without having holes exposed in my face lol that sounds wrong.

Anyway Thanks Adam.

I feel like the likelihood of getting a job with mods is definitely based on location in a lot of ways. The only visable mods i have are my ears and the biggest is only a 2ga and I cannot for the life of me get any kind of job here in Alabama. I'm in college right now for court reporting and I know in court jobs they really look down on mods..we'll see what happens there though.
But I generally agree with Adam, that people with mods shouldn't be afraid to try out for higher level jobs and companies shouldn't be afraid to hire them as long as they're 100% qualified for the job. It's just not going to be easy in alot of places!

Currently an apprentice mechanic. Freakin good one too, I'm told. Going to school in the fall for engineering, because I know I'm good enough at math to do it. No one can stop me from taking the classes, and if I'm good enough when I'm done the classes, people will look past the mods to see the awesome.

i'm still in college but i know what i want to do. i want to make movies. any movie i can make i want to make it. though most directors you see aren't heavily modified. and if they are, most of them make movies about being heavily modified. I am not going to do that. my mission in my directing career is to never make a movie that is solely about body modification. even though i love it. why should i have to only make movies about that? i have many other great ideas.
